Attention Educators!

During WPCA exhibits, one-hour educational tours are available for school groups. The exhibition tour and accompanying studio art experience are available by advance reservation only and are appropriate for any age group or artistic ability.

 

Each tour includes a gallery discussion of the artwork on display, as well as a hands-on/take-home art project related to the show for the students to create in our classroom.

 

FEE: $3.00 per student (adults, teachers and chaperones are free).  We can accommodate up to 40 students. Groups of younger students are requested to please include one chaperone for each 10 children. Birthday Parties at WPCA

 

You can celebrate your child's next birthday at Walker's Point Center for the Arts! Children's Art Project Birthday parties are an afternoon of fun. WPCA members $85. Non-members $120. Call Kate at (414) 755-8892 for more details.

        • Summer Arts Camp 2007- Field Trip Week

 

Summer Arts Camp is eight exciting weeks of creative art-making and exploration for kids from 6 to 12! The camp is an excellent way for children ages 6 to 12 to be creative in a safe environment with professional instructors from diverse artistic backgrounds.

Hours: Tues - Fri, 1 to 5pm

2008 Summer Arts Camp Schedule:

 

June 24th to 27th - Fabric Painting, Collage and de-modifying:

Paint on jeans or fabric with a project focusing on building self esteem with Madison based “Project Girl”, (bring in your old jeans!)

July 1st to July 3rd - Field Trip Week:

Enjoy the great outdoors with trips to the Botanical Gardens, swimming pool and more. Transportation provided. Additional fee applies for entrance admissions, no class July 4th.

July 8th to 11th - Felting with Wool:

Fun from fiber! Learn the ancient art of felting by creating pouches, pins, dolls and more! Kathy Eggers - Fiber Artisan.

July 15th to 18th - Painting and Drawing:

Learn how to “see” with an artists’ eye and explore textural painting techniques and applications, Katrina Motley - MIAD alum/WPCA Artist in Residence

July 22nd to 25th - Ceramics:

Discover the wonderful world of clay; all pieces will be glazed and fired on site for students to take with them. Barb Nelson-certified Art Educator

July 29th to Aug 1st - Environmental Art:

A special project creating an art installation along the Milwaukee river using natural materials. Consultants and collaborators: Roy Staabs, Dara Larson, and Barb Nelson. Funded by Milwaukee Arts Board.

Aug 5th to 8th - African Ameri-dance:

Prepare for a high energy experience culminating in a student performance on August 15th! SoulJa Natarajah- celebrated Ko-Thi performer and youth workshop facilitator

Aug 12th to Aug 15th - FIESTA week!!!

Pinatas, food, fun and more…including student dance performance Aug 15th at 6pm!

 

Air conditioned classes are held Tuesday through Friday at 905 W. National Ave. Milwaukee, WI 53204 from 1pm to 5pm.

 

Fee: $32 week for members / $40 for nonmembers, reduced rates made possible with generous help from our donors and funders.

After School Drop-In

Art classes are offered Tuesday through Friday from 3-5 pm for students 6-12 years of age. Here students learn about art elements and principals of design through hands-on activities.
Classes are Free!

Afternoons with Art

AwA offers classes from 1 to 5pm on days when MPS is not in session (i.e. Spring and Winter breaks, Record/Staff planning days)

 

Check your MPS calendar or call for dates. Activities provide a well rounded Arts intensive experience. Fee applicable.

      • SO/HO (Site-On Hands-On)

    SO/HO is part of WPCA’s Hands-On program developed to reach students (where they are at.) Through the MPS Partnership for the Arts grant, WPCA has reached over 1000 students, hiring more than a dozen professional working artists. After school Arts programs offered have included: Afro-Cuban Dance, African Ameri-Dance, Puppet Theater, Drum Making, Percussion, Creative Writing, Culture Crafts and Visual Arts including Print Making, Hand-Crafted Tile Mosaic Mural, Community Murals, Ceramics, Painting and Drawing.

Arts at Large

We offer art related workshops and residencies to schools affiliated with MPS’s Arts at Large program. Schools can choose from programs in the Visual arts, Theatre Arts and Creative Writing, Murals, Dance and Movement and more… We pride ourselves in serving students with a comprehensive arts experience and can create a workshop or residency that is tailor made to fit the needs of the students at the site. We provide qualified dedicated professionals with years of experience leading workshops and residencies.

 

Special Events

WPCA will provide workshops, demonstrations and performances for Special Events. In the past year we have worked with organizations such as: the Milwaukee Art Museum, Kohl’s Corporation, UCC, Latino Arts, Inc. and coordinators of Cinco de Mayo celebration to create a special, memorable experience for all!
